Teacher's Pet

(Who could resist this cute face!?!)

Today, when I was walking up to the daycare to pick Kegan up, I looked up and saw the school's director, Sharon, walking out of a door in a building next to his, and down the ramp, holding Kegan. In my mind I was thinking, "Oh no...he must have been REAL fussy and she took him out and about to calm him down." However, as soon as she spotted me, she waved hello and said that she just couldn't help herself and had to walk around with him. She told me she had gone into the baby room to visit and saw Kegan looking at one of his toys and went and talked to him. When she walked away, she said, Kegan just gave her the saddest little face that just said, "Take me"...soooo...she picked him up and was making her rounds with him. It was very sweet. He was just as happy and content as could be. I would like to point out - I have not seen her walking around with any of the other babies - I've seen her holding them in the room, but not taking them around with her. Like I said, who can resist that little face of his!?!...hehe....

Here is just a cute picture I took of him today in his cute dinosaur outfit Grams gave him. For those of you who know Kegan, you can tell he is just talking away in this picture. Little man just opens that mouth wide for a BIG smile when he is happy!

We had some play time tonight. In the past couple of weeks we have started putting him in his play saucer (thank you ladies in the neighborhood). He can barely touch the bottom with his tip-toes, but he still manages to swivel, move, and look around. As you can see he is really starting to notice and explore things around him. He loves these little spinning wheels (they make different noises). It is fun to watch him play in it and see his face as he notices the toys and what they do.

I love this picture - it looks like he is saying to himself, "OOOO...What is that?"
"I am just going to reach out and try it for myself!...hmmm...That is a funny sound."

Finally, here is a picture of Kegan talking on the phone. (I had put my mom on speaker phone and he was holding on to it...too cute!) It is a skill he is going to have learn early. For those of you who know Matthew - you know what I mean! :) Notice the play phone laying beside him - we have already been practicing! :)

A Weekend in Wharton

Early Saturday Morning Kegan and I headed off to Wharton. (Matthew is in the middle of planting now, so he could not go.) We got there a little before 10:00. We were welcomed by my Grandma and Pappa (one set of Kegan's great-grandparents), Grams (my mom), and Wendy and Karsyn. What a welcome crew! It was great to see all of them. Below are some pictures of Grandma and Pappa with Kegan.

Gramdma is doing double duty - holding Kegan and talking to Karsyn. It is so fun to watch her interact with them and be able to see how she probably interacted with me as a baby. What wisdom years can bring. I don't know if it is possible, but I really think she can talk to Kegan, and he understand. He just seemed to carry on conversations with her. It was wonderful to see.

Pappa even got in on the action and help Kegan some while we were doing some stuff in the kitchen. He even talked to Kegan - so cute!

Around lunch time, my aunt Betsy showed up, and my cousin Lynne, with 2 of her children. This was the first time for them to meet Kegan and I have to say, he enjoyed them as much as they seemed to enjoy him. Below are some pictures of the girls playing with Kegan and Karsyn. In one picture you see Julianne feeding Kegan his bottle - she wanted to help with everything that day. She helped change his diaper, fed him two bottles, and even tried to burp him. I told her I would take her down to Corpus with me so she could babysit Kegan - she smiled at the idea!
While we were eating, Kegan and Karsyn entertained themselves on the pallet laid out on the ground. They did a great job - just talking to each other, and kicking around. Now, I due have to tattle on Karsyn, at one point in time, she did reach over, take the pacifier out of Kegan's mouth, play with it for a little bit, then proceeded to stick it in her own mouth. Kegan did not seem to mind though. He just laid there happily. What a good boy - sharing his pacifier with his cousin! I am sure they will love this picture and story when they turn about 13...but I think it was rather cute!

Now, what is a Grandma to do when both grandchildren want to be held - easy, Grams just holds them both and smile the whole time! I just love this picture!

Later on that day we went to a bluebonnet patch and took some pictures of the babies. They were a LOT more interested in the bluebonnets than in taking pictures, but we still got some VERY CUTE pictures. (I am not going to admit how many I had to take to get these few - but they were worth it!) He really looks like he is studying them, doesn't he? I already have a genius on my hands. (I am the mom - I can be bias!!! :))

I thought this was cute of the cousins - they were not interested in the cameras, but it does look like Karsyn is trying to get Kegan's attention to show him something she discovered.

After the bluebonnets we all went to a strawberry patch and picked some strawberries. Kegan and Karsyn entertained Grandma, Grams, and Aunt Betsy while we all picked the berries. After that Kegan, Grams, and I returned to Grandma and Pappa's and enjoyed some more time with them.

Sunday morning we went to church with Grandma and Pappa. We took him into the service and with us and he did so good - he did not cry once! Everyone commented on how adorable and handsome Kegan was! Of course, I had to agree.

We left after lunch, came home, went to Sunday night church, came home and crashed!

I was afraid we might get the "fussy" report at school today because he might have gotten used to being help a little more, but, they said he had a great day today.

He finally seems to be getting over his cold. His coughing is a lot better, so hopefully this means we are on the downhill side of this cold. I certainly hope so - I am ready to have a full night's sleep again - he is all worth it though.

Kegan has started rolling from his back to his side a lot, so I am going to try and catch that on camera and find out a way to post it on here so you all can see. So...check back!

4 month Update

One tired baby...

These were taken last night. We did not pose him (except the washcloth)...and he was not blinking when the flash went off...he was sleeping. He slept through his entire bath last night, except when he opened his eyes for a brief second when I was putting soap in his hair. It was rather adorable - he was just snoring away as peaceful as could be!
This morning we trekked off to the doctor's, again. This time we were going for his 4 month wellness visit. Highlights of the visit included: Kegan now ways 13 lbs. 2 oz and he is a loooong 25 3/4 in. ...which is a little over 2 ft. tall -Wow! All his developmental skills are on track (holing up head, cooing, responding to sounds, etc...). The doctor also said not to worry about all his spitting up because he is growing just fine, but Kegan did get put on a higher dosage of his reflux medicines for the next month. Kegan is also going to start having a little bit of cereal in his bottles. The doctor said it should help him keep his food down better. No news as to whether or not to try and "feed" him cereal, so we will avoid that for a little longer. as for his cold - the doctor said it takes a while for babies to get over colds and that as long as he is around a lot of other babies, he will probably get every cold that comes in, till his immunity is built up. One thing positive, about this - he is building his immunity. The visit concluded with 4 shots and some drops in his mouth. He did great with the drops - he has had a ton of practices with medicine - ok with the first shot, screamed on the second shot...and kept screaming through the last two.
Matthew and I often talk about how fast time is flying...and it is...very fast. I can't believe Kegan is already 4 months old. He is such a blessing from the Lord, and a joy to Matthew's and my heart. We can't picture life with out him. Just looking at him, hearing him breath, seeing that smile...too many little things to mention, are priceless treasures!

Just to let you know

Well, it has been fun reading your comments about the comments on Kegan being spoiled. I did want to let everyone know that he teachers really do love him and think he is wonderful. She did tell me that he was not fussy the next day. I guess Matthew and I talking to him really worked - haha! I think we just got lucky.

Just in case you have not scrolled down, there are new pictures up of Kegan and Karsyn, too! I had not posted them and had accidentally saved the post as a draft - soooo...it got up there are day late, after writing the "Might I add" post. Hmm...that was confusing. Anyways, all to say - scroll down if you want to see some REALLY cute pictures of my handsome little man! :)

Tomorrow we go for a 4 month wellness check. I can not wait to see how long he is and hear what the doctor has to say about when to start rice cereal - eek! I will let y'all know, so check back tomorrow!

Might I add

Well, I had already written to posting prior to this when a few other note worthy things happened today...so here we go for post number 2 today.

When I went to pick up Kegan from daycare today I heard some dreaded words, "Do you hold him a lot at home?" (aka - He seems very spoiled because he cries whenever we put him down.) Oh joy - I have the spoiled one. Well, I proceeded to tell his teacher that we went to Houston this weekend and saw his Grams and Grandpa, his great grandparents - Meme and Poppa - and was held most of Saturday while we were at a wedding. (I did what I do not like the parents of the kids in my class to do - I passed on the blame...surely it could not be anything I did.) Oooppps! I think he got a bit spoiled this weekend through all of that...and...we might hold him a little extra at night...we miss him during the day! One thing more to add, she said they would set him down and he would start crying and then LOOK AT THEM to see if they were coming or not...AHHH!!! I so don't like it when my kids at school get dramatic and then look to see if I saw...now I am raising one. Hopefully we caught it in time though and can reverse this spoiledness...hehe!

Another thing - for all of you who Matthew has played some sort of trick on - I know that is MANY of you!!! - Kegan is getting him back for you. Kegan has peed on Matthew TWICE, in a one week time span, while Matthew was carrying him to the bathroom to give him a bath. Haha...Kegan has never done this to mommy...sooo...I think he knows he better start playing those tricks early on his daddy...hehe!!!

I just thought y'all would enjoy those. They made me laugh!

A trip to Houston

Last week was very busy, so I am sorry I did not get to right much about the little guy. We had something every night, which is probably why on Friday morning we headed off to the doctor...again. He was up all night Thursday coughing...therefore I was up to...even Matthew woke up a few times - so we know it had to be pretty bad to wake up daddy - hehe! The doctor said it sounded like a bad cough, but that it had not gone into his lungs - good news - and to keep him on a cough medicine so he could at least get some sleep. Kegan also was on steroids for 3 days to help strengthen his throat muscles (although when he is crying I can promise you those things are PLENTY strong) so he could cough with out having to grasp for air.

One good thing about having to go to the doctor, Kegan and I got to leave a little earlier to go to Houston. I had a good friend from college who was getting married. (Congratulations Katy!) It took up about 4 hours to get there and he slept the entire time. That was nice - it certainly makes things easier like that when you are traveling by yourself. We got to Wendy, Nolan, and Karsyn's house where they and my parents were. It was great to get to see them! Kegan spent the evening with them while I went to the rehearsal dinner. The next day I left early that morning to head to the wedding while mom and dad were in charge of dressing both babies (Wendy and Nolan went on a vacation) and getting them to the wedding. They did great - mom did mention to Stephani though, to not have twins! The kids were great during the ceremony. Kegan was awake the entire time just sitting in his car seat and looking around at everything. He did not make one sound - my respectful little man!!! We were off to the reception after that where he turned on the charm - him and Karsyn both. By the end of the reception Kegan smelled like the combination of a lot of ladies perfume (and a little spit up). He was great while being passed around and share lots of smiles! :)

After the wedding mom and I took the kids to get their pictures taken. (See below) Don't they look just adorable!!! The photographer kept commenting on how cute they were and how great they were for the camera. Could it be that these poor kids are just that used to having a camera in thier face, flahing at them!?!?
I love this picture of the kids. It looks like Karsyn is just about to crack up at whatever Kegan is saying.

On Sunday, my Meme and Poppa came over to see the kids (no longer do they come to see us). It has been an amazing thing to watch my own grandparents interact with my child. What a blessing! When they are around Karsyn and Kegan you would never guess them to be in their eighties. They love those babies and will tell anyone who will listen. :)
If you notice the cushion missing in the picture below it is becuase Kegan spit up all over it and it was being cleaned. Either way, I thought it was a sweet picture of my grandparents holding 2 of their great grandchildren.

We also learned on Sunday that Kegan and Karsyn enjoy talking (loudly) to one another. During lunch Kegan was under a play gym and Karsyn was playing with some toys in her walker and they just "blah blah blah..." for the entire time we ate...as happy as could be. It was the cutest things to listen to! It was a great weekend!

A Pretty Easy Going Weekend

Saturday morning Kegan, Matthew and I got up...at 6:30. He does not yet seem to get the concept that weekends are meant for sleeping in just a little later than usual. Well, anyways, we got up and played for a little bit (he was in a great mood!) and got breakfast around 7:15. Matthew had left by this time, so Kegan and I played with some of his toys till we had to get ready for his chiropractor appointment. For those of you wondering - it really does seem to be helping with his acid reflux - crazy, huh? Kegan did real well during the back massaging and little neck message (NO POPPING OF ANYTHING!) but he did NOT want to lay down to have his belly worked on - usually he does not mind this - today however, he was not going to have it. It was so pitiful - I was helping hold him so he did not roll off and he looked up and back at with with eyes that just said, "Oh, Mommy, do I really have to...are you going to let this happen to me?"...then he screamed it. The doctor stopped, played with him for a few minutes till he was giggling and smiling again and then finished. It still amazes me to watch the doctor work on such a tiny person.

After that we took lunch out to Matthew in hopes of riding on a tractor while they were planting the grain. Look, Kegan even got dressed up in his overalls for the occasion. (The picture at the top of the blog site was taken this same day.)
However, as is always true on the farm - things were a bit crazy and errands needed to be run, so we just road around with Matthew in the truck. Kegan did not seem to mind - that diesel engine put him right to sleep. Hopefully I can get some pictures this week of Kegan on the planter and I will post them. Won't he look so cute up on a tractor!?!

Sunday, we all got up...again at 6:30 per Kegan thinking it was a school day. That is ok though - it just gave us some extra time to get ready for church. Doesn't he look just so grown up and adorable in his church outfit?!?
After lunch with Matthew's parents, we came home and Kegan supervised as I trimmed a tree in the front yard. This ended up being an entire afternoon ordeal since Kegan and I stopped once to lay him down for a nap ( I got a lot down during that hour) and then for a bottle. We ended the evening with church and dinner with the youth (all of which he slept through). Like I said, an easy going weekend - but a nice one...with some good pictures!!! :)

"Setliff Boys Will Do Anything to get on a Tractor"

The above quote was taken from something my father-in-law said yesterday in regards to the day Kegan had.

Let's start with the cute pictures I tried to take of Kegan Thursday morning (He was not in the mood to wake up - it was not till I was slipping his overalls on that he began to wake up. I had changed his diaper, taken off his sleeper, and put on his onesie and he had slept through it all.) When he finally did wake up he was less than enthusiastic about anything silly mom was doing to try and get him to smile for a picture.

Well, later that morning I got a call from the daycare that said he had thrown up. I told my kids in my class to go read a book, I did not want any questions, that Kegan was sick and I needed to call the doctor. Being 2nd graders they of course all had some story of being sick they wanted to tell me, or express their concern - very sweet, but I had no time for this, my little man was sick - so they heard a very stern Mrs. Setliff tell them to go sit down and to not raise their hand, I did not have time. I got a hold of Matthew, who left planting the fields, and went and picked up Kegan and took him back to the farm (hence the title). I then called the doctor and got him a 2:15 appointment. Now I had to go see if I could leave work to take him. The school is running low on subs, so I was a bit worried about this. I was able to find my assistant principle, explain to her what was going on, and she said they would send an aid from a pre-school classroom into my room to take over at 1:15. Of course, I did have to take a 1/2 of leave (that is supposed to cover 11:30 - 3:00, so I got gypped out a couple of hours) and since I have no leave left because it was all taken when I had Kegan, they would have to doc my paycheck for the time. Anyways, I will stop with that - it was nice that I could get away. I left at 1:15, met Matthew to pick Kegan up, and headed for the doctor. By the time we got there, Kegan was smiling and happy - little stinker, he just had a good time with daddy on a tractor, so he was as happy as could be. The doctor checked him out and said he seemed fine. Good news!

We went home and he was ready to try and eat, so we fed him. He took a nap, seemed ok, so I started putting him in his car seat so we could take food to Matthew and...up came the entire bottle...everywhere. (This is one of those things that I think would have made me nauseous myself, before, but being a mom made me be able to deal with it ok...and go...ugghh...later!) Kegan did not cry or fuss and was again, all grins after this. Hmmm.... While cleaning him up I was talking to my mother-in-law and she asked had I changed anything lately about his food and it occurred to me I had just gotten a new thing of formula. I wonder...so we got another can and when he was ready to eat, we gave a bottle with the new formula...and he kept it all down. SO....all of that and I think it boiled down to a bad can of formula. He seems to be much better now!

Other updates: I think he is getting a better idea of what his hands are for. Last night he was holding on to this bee on his bouncer and just grinning and laughing at it. (See pictures below)

Here are some pictures of Kegan on a blue dog mat. Wendy had put Karsyn on a pink bear one to keep track of her growth and I thought it was a good idea, so I will occasionally put up a picture of him on the dog rug so y'all can see his growth. For those of you who know Karsyn, you will be able to see how big they would be next to each other, because the animal rugs are the same size, just different animals.

Here is another picture of Kegan, from Tuesday. Again, not happy with mommy taking his picture at 6:45. :)
